Josip Trostmann

was born on June 9th, 1938 in Dubrovnik. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and in the same year became a member of HDLU. He currently engages in art pedagogy. He is one of few artists who continue to bear the colors traditional to Dubrovnik. Regarding the chosen motives and typology, he is a modern painter most characteristic of Dubrovnik, demonstrated through his passion and devotion. Thanks to these attributes and his significance, he has laid a path for modern Croatian fine arts. Depicting subjects from both native land and still life, his works range between impressionism and expressionism. Distinctly characteristic to him is his works with patterns of painted stains with which the subject is dissolved into light.
